Miss World 2006
I’m confused. But then I find many things in this country confusing. Maybe you could help me.
Someone please explain to me how the recent comments by the other Kaczynski in favour of moral censorship are consistent with the decision to host Miss World 2006.
I didn’t think traditional Catholic values supported girls in bikinis.

Good one! Though I don't think there is anything in their Bible that says 'Thou shalt not be a sexist little piggie'!
I also don't think the Church approves of Eroticon and its "Vote for Nude Miss Poland" as I've seen on the billboard.
I believe the word we're looking for is HYPOCRITE.
in some catholic communities, i am thinking about sub-sahara africa, you might have catholic women who don't wear anything but a few threads...so, what do you say about that? these women, and men are exposed and catholic...adam and eve didn't think abotu clothes until later, so somehow nudity was seen as good, and that all changed somewhere down the line...maybe around the time of the beerbelly and cellulite?
it's called niche tourism, just like the drug tourism in holland...and disaster tourism in the tsunami zones last year...sometimes you have to be pragmatic -- business for poland is good for everyone in poland...poland needs to identify other niches...like night bus tourism for example...i prefer armchair tourism right now...
Ok, so I will partially represent the flip side. Although at times many seem to be hypocritical, one thing is factual: From what I have seen with my own eyes, growing up in New York City and observing the local media, the Catholic church, specifically Catholic Poles, do face tremendous discrimination and anti-Polish bias in the world media, press and television today. Historical truths and facts are constantly twisted, and false accusations at Catholic Poles are weekly events in the media. One must keep in mind that Poland and Polish culture remains today because of the Catholic Church in Poland. Why shouldn't Catholics and the church in Poland have a strong voice in a country that is over 90% Catholic, just about the highest percentage of any country in Europe? They are, after all, the majority here. Those individuals with liberal minded thoughts will often unjustly always attack, criticize, and poke fun at the church in Poland. It seems when a politician or public figure in this country defends Poland's interests and Catholicism, they are labeled 'nationalists' or 'extreme right'. Of course, nothing is perfect and at times, just criticism is due.

I can't believe how little you know about Poland. Have you ever been there? The truth is that I'm Polish and I'm pissed when someone has one stereotype in his head and makes judgements only according to it.
When you come out with accusations like that anonymous, at least have the cajones to write your name.
Then, please have the courtesy to tell us who you are addressing. There are several different opinions here, so who are you accusing of not knowing anything about Poland?
Finally, a claim to "being Polish" is not enough to claim "expert" status as you seem to. Do you mean you have Polish heritage or you were born and raised here? Because not only has everyone posting on this blog been to Poland, we have lived here.
So we do know something about what we're discussing.
Miss World 2006 in Poland is a great party. Let's join it by voting for contestants who you like the most. I vote for Miss Vietnam, Thuy Mai Phuong. And you??????
Come on, I'm from Poland. I'm 17 and I'm a catholic. I can assure you that we don't see anything wrong in bikinis etc. Probably you've never seen polish beach in the summer...
